[sdw2003] Window 7 not joining Win 2003 Server

Hi NewISGUy,

If you have a domain, your DNS server setting being handed out to the
clients ALWAYS needs to be the IP address of the domain controller. If
it is not, then the workstation will not be able to join the domain. If
your domain controller is 192.168.1.2, then your DNS server setting needs
to be 192.168.1.2. Either set it statically or have your DHCP server
hand it out.

thanks

-bob

Hi folks
I am still having the same issue and am soliciting more ideas.
One thing that I need to ask is that if I am using an ISP (Cox) and have a router setup behind the cable modem. Does the DNS setting gets assigned during Domin joining of Windows 7 client to MyDomain, the DNS information of the router which is the Cox's DNS IP? Or not? If so can I enter MyDomain's IP address in IP (192.168.xxx.xxx) format which is my actual DNS server (the Domain's IP address)? Please help me understand this.

Thanks
NewIsGuy

I just go to the computer and join the domain and when the domain asks for authorization and I provide it, the computer gets added in. I do know that in the past, and this only applies to SBS, for that OS, I do go to the domain controller and create a new computer account, however I've had the DC bark back at me when I use the existing name, I have to create a 'new' name in order for the connectcomputer to work.
