I am experiencing the same problem with my Lenovo laptop.   

Are you using a firewall?

LENOVO LAPTOP  xp sP3 - IE 7 MOZILLA 3.0  and Now  3.5.7

This is about why for me...  not about wipe and repave.

I can ping localhost.
I can surf on the connection with another PC.
In IE or Mozilla  browser - Can't find host
When I Put in the IP address for the server.  it times out
getting IP address fine
I can network between machines.
I have removed the nic and the wireless devices and reinstalled them.
Reset winsock  and IP stack with  netsh..
Checked for proxy settings auto detect....
reset IE to default settings as well
I manually assigned IP addresses DNS and gateway
I uninstalled TCP/IP and reinstalled on both network devices.
I can tracert 64.233.187.99  out 12 servers and then timed out...
Restarted related services as well.  Trying everything...


ping msn.com   = can't find host.  NO IP address is returned.  DNS
trouble...
Ping IP address for google (64.233.187.99) 4 timed outs..
Ping DNS server on ATT Modem  68.94.156.1  I get a reply (4).

What did I miss...?
