How many licenses would you need? I would suggest Windows 7 Pro, unless
you have hundreds of desktops, than I'd suggest Windows 7 Enterprise
through a licensing agreement. Will you be using Microsoft's
DirectAccess stuff? Will you have Windows Server 2008 Domain
Controllers? These can add benefits to a Win 7 deployment.

Subject: [sdw2003] Windows 7?
What are the initial feelings on Windows 7 at this point? Have any of
you deployed it or standardized on it yet? Or since it was just
released barely a month ago is it too soon for anyone to have
considered it?
We have a bunch of machines running Windows 2000 for desktops. Various
pieces of software we use are not supporting it anymore and the
machines themselves are starting to die requiring replacement. Windows
2000 has been the company standard for years.
We need to pick a new standard at this point since we need a hardware
refresh anyway. Vista was a dud and XP/2000 are way old and Microsoft
is going to be doing everything they can to push them out. If Windows
7 is too new and the others unsuitable for various reasons what is a
person faced with a hardware refresh at this point in time to do?
If/when we move to Windows 7 which version would we likely need?
Window 7 Smoky Bacon Edition? Windows 7 Kenny Loggins Edition?* We
just want a suitable small office Window that can authenticate to a
domain (although we hope to eliminate this need in the future, we have
it at the moment), access file shares, and do basic desktop stuff.
