"With the 3Com deal, H-P becomes the world's second-largest maker of
networking gear after Cisco, said Mark Fabbi, an analyst at
market-research firm Gartner.
Cisco's networking market share in terms of revenue is about 70%, Mr.
Fabbi said; as the number two, a combined H-P and 3Com will have about
a 10% share of revenue.
When it comes to units shipped, the combined H-P and 3Com will have
a share of more than 40%, combined to 54% for Cisco, according to
Gartner."
