[sdw2003] Creating a new user in SBS2008

Hi Bob. Me neither, not even the old CEICW in SBS2003. Get used to the
Wizards in SBS2008. Make friends with them. Shake their hands.
Introduce yourself. Ask them how they're doing. Let them know how
you're doing. Prepare to revolutionize how you support servers. Server
2008 is very similarly wizard driven - I just had to enable RRAS on a
standard Win2008 server last night and could not do it "manually" -
those days are virtually over. I like the visibility too, but also know
when to supplant my desire to know versus my need to finish the job.
As far as SBS2008 and computers assigned in RWW to users, you actually
allow the user to remotely login to the computer. From SBS Console.
Network. Identify Client Computer. Right-click. View Computer
Properties. User Access. The rest of the exercise is left to the
reader.
As far as the user created in AD and not showing up in the Console, it's
because a "role" needs to be assigned to that user. There is no default
"role" coming from ADUC. Weird but true. So I just use the Console any
more.
Add user to computer from elsewhere than the SBS Console - don't know
why you'd want a different place to do it from, but it would be an
interface to RWW (basically, IIS), since that's where these permissions
get "translated" or applied. I took a peek in IIS and couldn't even
begin to find it, so I'll leave that to you to figure out.

Subject: [sdw2003] Creating a new user in SBS2008
Hi All,
I've never been a big WIZARD fan, and have always done things
manually as opposed to using wizards. You get to know the system
better if its done manually as opposed to having Windows create
things for you. With SBS2008, I've found that if you manually
create a 'user' in Active Directory, this user can't see the list
of computers to connect to using the Remote Web Workplace webpage.
This list can be editted if you do create the user from the SBS
Console in "User and Groups". A user created here will show up in
A.D., but a user created in A.D. will not show up in the SBS Console.
My question is........is there another area within SBS that gives
you the option of adding Remote Computers to a user's account so
they appear in the list when using the Remote website?? It seems to
me that the SBS Console is the only way to currently accomplish this
task.
thanks
-bob
