[sdw2003] Surplus servers from a friends defunct ISP...

Greetings!

A friend of mine, that used to run his own ISP, has near 70 of these
systems. The specs seem good to me, and if I had the cash, I would buy a
few myself. However, as incentive to me, I'll get one or two for helping him
liquidate his old assets (that's my motivation).

does anyone know of anyone that might be interested in servers like these?

They are name-brand 1U rack-mount HP servers for $250 each. They came from
an ISP, so they are burned in and not likely to fail.

Here's the specs...

# Model: HP DL360 G3
# Two 32-bit Intel Xeon 2.8 Ghz with Hyper Threading (DUAL CPUs)
# Memory: 2 GB DDR2 PC2100R ECC Registered (don't know what the limit is,
but more can be installed)
# Hard Disk: 2x36GB Hot swap U320 SCSI Total: (larger drives can be
installed, and these are HOT SWAP)
# Network: Two NC7781 PCI-X Gigabit NICs (embedded)
# Manageability: Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) Management
# RAID Controller: Smart Array 5i for Data redundancy
# I/O Channels: Two full length 64-bit/100MHz PCI-X slots
# Power Supply: 325-Watt hot plug power supply
# One (1) Mouse and Keyboard Port
# One (1) 15-pin VGA port
# 24x CD-ROM Drive
# 1.44MB Diskette Drive
# (2) USB port
# O/S: CentOS 5.3 ( 32 bit Linux Operating system )
# Guaranteed to work. 3 days server replacement warranty

There might even be discount for quantity buy. He also mentioned to me that
if you take multiple systems, that he'd up his warranty to 15 days.

My incentive is that if I can move enough for him, that mine would be free!
This is an upgade from what I have currently, so I'm game! :-)

The ISP used to be up in L.A., so I took a small load (15). The rest are in
L.A., but we can work out the logistics for more if there is interest. The
deal that I have with him is that I'm going to drop whatever remains back at
his place in L.A. on 10/23. So, the time frame is limited (less than a
month).

This is no sham or fly-by-night. Some of you know me from running one of the
other user groups here in town (Randy S., you know me!). BTW- big news,
there's actually going to be a meeting on the 19th!! (didn't really intend
to stoop so low as to advertise it here!) ;-)

Anyway, the systems look good to me, and it is a genuine opportunity for
anyone that could use some decent 1U servers.

I'm going to be working a Navy secure lab for a good portion of today, so I
will not have access to phone or e-mail, but please feel free to leave me
messages, and I will respond as soon as I am able.

Let me know!
