Winner! Winner! We just ran into this, too. We started scoping it out
after Eric's post, and then finally found the Universal Restore product.
For $90, we can move this XP box to dissimilar (read: newer) hardware
and be assured it'll work. That's a good $90 to spend, in my book.

You can use Acronis True image to make a backup and then use Acronis
universal restore to restore to dissimilar hardware:
