is "a good day's work" as you said and you charge a reasonable
consulting fee of $80/hr the consulting comes to $640 which is only
59% of the software license cost! But we aren't done yet. You need an
enterprise virus scanner etc. For this client the fun has only just
begun! :)

How easily scalable is it when you have to buy more licenses to scale?
There are plenty of other solutions which are more easily scalable
(both license-wise and technically speaking, nobody runs a major
website on Sharepoint) with readily found service. If this client does
end up running Sharepoint be sure to get them patched up as frequently
as possible:
