[sdw2003] I need a small favor

Hi John,
It looks like this is an on-board RAID controller.......not really a
good idea to run a server with an onboard controller. Someone recently
from our users group (Nelson) had the motherbd go belly-up, and trying
to find the same motherbd(with this controller) in a few years may be
very difficult. You're setting yourself up for future blue-screen
issues
if you try to install another RAID controller if you need to rebuild
this
system if the motherbd goes south, in the future. I've also ran into
this
problem with client servers that I've inherited. I would rather buy an
add-in RAID controller that can be moved, along with the hard drives, to
a new system if the motherboard ever does die.
But I digress.......the floppy issue is a big stickler that I addressed
on this forum a few years back. Windows Server 2003 (I'm assuming
here...)
does have many built-in drivers for RAID controllers (Adaptec 2100/2000,
many of the Compaq controllers, etc) that won't require additonal
drivers.
I've also had pretty good luck with using a controller that has built-in
RAID drivers inn order to get the system loaded with the basic settings.
Once Windows is loaded, you can then install the drivers for the onboard
controller (Windows should have detected the new hardware). You can then
move the drive(s) over to the onboard controller and rebooted since now
Windows has the knowledge(drivers) on how to talk to the onboard ctlr
now.
Of course, the drives and controllers have to be of the same type(SATA,
SCSI, IDE, etc...).
.........this email will self destruct in 5 years. Good luck John

Could someone extract the files from the exe at
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?ProductID=926&DwnldID=5
914&lang=eng
and send them to me?
It does not recognize my USB floppy drive, and I cannot find a way to
force this stupid installer to just extract the files.
I'm trying very hard to refrain from a frothing rant about why Windows
insists on using floppies only for additional drivers when installing
Windows. Someone needs to send Redmond a note... FLOPPIES ARE EXTINCT!
NOBODY USES THEM ANY MORE! NOBODY HAS THEM! We found a dusty old
floppy disk at the bottom of an old drawer, and I'm using a drive out of
an old laptop. This is freaking ridiculous.
Well, I guess I failed in my attempt to refrain...
